God never condemned Abraham, David, or Solomon for having multiple wives — so did God actually endorse polygamy, or has the church just been too embarrassed to deal with it?
Abraham had Sarah and Hagar. Jacob had four wives. David had many. Solomon had seven hundred. And God called most of these men heroes of the faith. The Bible never once records God telling any of them that their multiple marriages were sinful — yet the church today treats monogamy as the obvious biblical standard. So which is it: did God permit polygamy for thousands of years and then quietly change his mind, or have Christians read a sexual ethic into Genesis that was never actually there? Pick a side and defend it.
